WK 4 : Wrapping up the Week
Hello Students,
In WK 4 some of us finished projects from our China unit, and others dove straight into a new unit that is focusing on the indigenous peoples of North America. With over 600 different tribes, and each having their own history, culture, and religion our look at the indigenous peoples of North America are vague but focused at the same time. I am looking forward to our projects being completed, and see the school be filled with more beautiful artwork.
Parents, please stop up for parent teacher conferences! The students and I would love for you to see what we are working on. It's a colorful room, so prepare yourself :-)
I would also at this time like to award the selected artists of the week for WK 4 :
7th Grade : Alladdin Robinson
8B : Donovan E.
8B : Tyliyah B.
Great work on your totem pole drawings!!
Have a great rest of your week and extended weekend!!

WK 1 : Art : 3rd - 5th : Vocabulary
Hello Students,
As promised, here are the definitions of the vocabulary words for WK1. Remember, class will begin with a quiz at the start if Wk 2!
- Bark Paper : Paper made from the bark of a tree.
- Texture : The way something feels.
- Line : A long consistent stroke.
- Shape : The outline of something.
Today we explored the Bark Paintings of ancient Mexico. The Indian tribes of Mexico created Bark Paintings from the bark of the mulberry and fig tree. They would boil the bark over a hot fire. Afterwards they placed the bark flat, and ground and beat it smooth with a stone. This process gave the paper texture. Once the bark dried, the local artists would create images of the village life, flowers, animals, or stories by transforming line into shape.
I hope you all enjoyed today's lesson. I look forward to grading your projects! Don't forget, quiz next week!
Keep working hard!

Week 1 : Welcome
Hello Everyone!
Week 1 for specials at HFS is finally here. Kindergarten began the year with a creative worksheet packet that worked on developing their scissor/cutting skills as well as creative drawing. Great job to everyone!
On this blog spot I will be featuring many exciting things. There will be homework assignments, as well as extra links to further your artistic knowledge. One thing I am really excited about is featuring the "Artists of the Week!" I will be updating my selections with pictures from time to time! Show off your skills, and perhaps you will be featured!
Thanks everyone for a great start to the year, let's keep it up!
