Let the new year begin!

Hello Friends and Families of Holy Family School!

I am pleased to be with you all once again for another exciting year at Holy Family School. This being my third year teaching at Holy Family, it is once again another year filled new adventures. The art program is growing steadily .... and the students are responding amazingly!

I'd like to start by sharing with you a few new additions to the Holy Family School Art Program:

1. Hyde Park Art Center
Thanks to a gracious donor, HFS has been blessed with a teaching artist. Meaghan Burritt is the new teaching artist at HFS for the 7th grade class. She visits us once a week and brings with her years of experience! We look forward to sharing the work created together. Currently the students are creating self-portrait weavings. They will be revealed the week of October 16th!

2. The First Ever Holy Family Art Exhibition
David Rhodes and myself have been working hard since the spring of 2012 with all the students of HFS to compile a wide variety of artwork. The ultimate goal was to feature the work at an art exhibition featuring all HFS student work. That day is quickly approaching. The students have had 5 workshops and we have had tons of artwork to sort through and select to feature. We are pleased to announce that October 20th will be the date of our exhibition. 12-3 at the Starbucks on 1245 W Fullerton will be the gracious hosts of our event. Keep posted for more details.

Well, last but not least, I'd like to share with you a few of our artists of the week!!! Please enjoy!!!

Carnival of the Animals

Hello!!

1st Grade has been my prized symphony class all year. Not only did they study the ins and outs of Beethoven's 6th Symphony, they just recently finished studying Camille's "Carnival of the Animals." We acted out the animal parts, talked about which instruments the composer chose to represent the animal he was trying to portray, the melody lines, the tempo, and the dynamic levels. To take it another step further, we created art work while listening to specific movements of the symphony.

Please enjoy photos of the tortoise, the chicken, and the fish!!

True Artists!!!!!

Artist In Residence

Calling all artists!!!!

We have been blessed by the powers from above, and into our laps has fallen a local artist who wishes to offer his skills to the students of Holy Family School. David Rhodes, photographer, hosted 3 art workshops, in cooperation with myself, for the students of HFS. We will be hosting more workshops once the 2012-2013 school year rolls around. The final artwork will be framed and showcased at an art exhibition, that will be hosted by the artists themselves! It will be a fundraiser for the art program at Holy Family School. We are so thrilled to be experiencing such wonderful community support!

Please enjoy some inside shots!

7th Grade Students : Art and Immigration

Our lesson today is designed for us to experience some stories of immigration that took place in America. We will be integrating our lesson into your social studies, where you are looking at citizenship and immigration. For this lesson though, you need to access this interactive website :
